OHITX Health Information Exchange:
Building a sustainable model to achieve meaningful use and improve quality of care

As HITECH Act rules and requirements for EHR adoption and meaningful use fluctuate, so do they affect change in health information exchange (HIE) market. This webinar examined the evolution and state of HIE. Early HIE organizers shared important lessons learned that can support future efforts to more efficiently connect healthcare operations across the country.

This webinar provided important information regarding laying the framework for Stage 1 meaningful use as well as taking steps to formalize HIE collaborations and technology partnerships that will lead to more broad exchange. Specifically, this program explored:

  • The evolution, benefits and future of HIE
  • HITECH Act requirements, grant funding and other resources for HIE
  • Key technology players and considerations
  • Experiences from several early HIE organizers
  • Best practice recommendations for success and
    pitfalls to avoid

Participants obtained a step-by-step guide to HIE planning and implementation, and heard from key stakeholders and support mechanisms like the Regional Extension Center (REC) program, recently established to support EHR adoption and HIE.
